FinFAIR
FinFAIR develops a lightweight and scalable workflow that enables small museums, archives and community collections to create interoperable Heritage Digital Twins and participate in the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH). It addresses a practical barrier to federation: many institutions hold unique cultural collections but lack the technical capacity to transform them into structured, interoperable and reusable data.
FinFAIR combines community-based curation with semantic modelling and open tools to test how independently managed collections can participate in a shared data space while retaining local stewardship. Its Livonian, Latgalian and wider Baltic–Nordic use cases deliberately vary in scale, metadata depth and institutional setting, providing an experimental environment for our research on semantic interoperability, subsidiarity and federation.
The resulting collections and knowledge infrastructure are being developed through the Finno-Ugric Data Sharing Space (FUDSS) at finnougric.net. From the perspective of the ReactAI research agenda, FinFAIR provides an important cultural-heritage counterpart to the music-sector experiments of OpenMusE: a setting in which interoperable Digital Twins, community knowledge and independently governed collections can be connected without requiring their centralisation.
